Opportunity #1

 

Citing Sources in MLA and APA Writing Writing Center Workshop

Wednesday, October 28

6-7 p.m.

TO RECEIVE EXTRA CREDIT YOU MUST:

  1. attend the workshop

  2. write a one-page, double-spaced reflection on what you learned and how you can apply that knowledge specifically to this class

Effective Strategies for Revision and Editing Writing Center Workshop

Tuesday, November 10

6-7 p.m.

Writing Center (Clara Bell Williams Hall 102)

TO RECEIVE EXTRA CREDIT YOU MUST:

  1. attend the workshop

  2. write a one-page, double-spaced reflection on what you learned and how you can apply that knowledge specifically to this class

Case Study: This Company is Bugging Me

TO RECEIVE EXTRA CREDIT YOU MUST:​

  1. read the case study

  2. conduct research on RFIDs (explained in case study)

  3. write a two-page, double-spaced answer to the question at the end of the case study

Case Study: Looking Guilty

TCSFT chpt. 14 pgs. 419-420

TO RECEIVE EXTRA CREDIT YOU MUST:

  1. read the case study

  2. write a two-page, double-spaced answer to all four questions at the end of the case study

 

 

Opportunity #5

 

Attend a 30- or 60-minute Writing Center appointment to work on a project or revision for this class

TO RECEIVE EXTRA CREDIT YOU MUST:

  1. log into the system via the link above and schedule your appointment

  2. attend your appointment and stay the entire length

  3. fill out the provided paperwork with your consultant during the appointment and bring me the yellow carbon copy

  4. write a one-page revision memo detailing what you learned during your appointment

 

 

Opportunity #6 (UPDATED WITH NEW DATES)

 

Dr. Clint Lanier, a professor in the English Department, is conducting a study on website responsiveness and its effects on reading on the web, an area grounded in technical communication. The study takes about 10 minutes, during which you'll read a short article and then answer some questions about it. For your time, you'll receive a $5 Starbucks gift card.

 

Below are the times of the study. If you would like to participate, please email Dr. Lanier at clanier@nmsu.edu to set up a specific date, time, and on-campus location:

 

  • Monday 1:30-3

  • Tuesday 1:30-3

  • Thursday 1:30-3
     

TO RECEIVE EXTRA CREDIT YOU MUST:

  1. participate in the study

  2. keep the consent form that will be provided

  3. write a one-page, double-spaced response discussing in what way(s) this study can help advance the field of technical communication
