NMSU Writing Center
The Writing Center offers free one-on-one tutoring for all NMSU students. We work with undergraduate and graduate writers at any level of experience and can help with anything from understanding assignment directions to revising final drafts. For distance-learning students, we also offer online consultations. Our Center is staffed by graduate assistants who teach undergraduate writing courses through the English Department.

NMSU Design Center
The overarching goal of the Design Center is to offer multimedia technologies, resources, and instructional support for students and faculty interested in creating multimodal texts for varied audiences. We afford opportunities for production and research collaboration across disciplinary, university, community, and industry boundaries. Through this outreach, students and faculty work on projects that provide situations for learning to respond in creative and rhetorically sophisticated ways to the dynamic needs and interests of variable contexts and audiences.

Online Writing Lab at Purdue
The Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue University houses writing resources and instructional material, and we provide these as a free service of the Writing Lab at Purdue. Students, members of the community, and users worldwide will find information to assist with many writing projects. Teachers and trainers may use this material for in-class and out-of-class instruction.

Write or Die
Write or Die is an application for Windows, Mac and Linux which aims to eliminate writer's block by providing consequences for procrastination and, new to this version, rewards for accomplishment. Historically Write or Die has specialized in being the stick in the carrot/stick motivation continuum, but it's time to experiment with encouragement.

Wonder why Zombies, Zombie Apocalypse, and Zombie Preparedness continue to live or walk dead on a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) web site? As it turns out what first began as a tongue in cheek campaign to engage new audiences with preparedness messages has proven to be a very effective platform. We continue to reach and engage a wide variety of audiences on all hazards preparedness via Zombie Preparedness.

Article abstract: Sitting at his laboratory bench, a scientist adds mutation after mutation to a strand of rabies virus RNA, unaware that in a few short days, an outbreak of this very mutation would destroy society as we know it. It could be called “Zombie Rabies,” a moniker befitting of the next Hollywood blockbuster—or, in this case, a representation of the debate over whether a zombie apocalypse, manufactured by genetically modifying one or more diseases like rabies, could be more than just fiction. Fear of the unknown has long been a psychological driving force for curiosity, and the concept of a zombie apocalypse has become popular in modern society. This article explores the utility of zombies to capitalize on the benefits of spreading public health awareness through the use of relatable popular culture tools and scientific explanations for fictional phenomena.

Importance of Writing and Communication Skills in the Workplace
It should be no surprise that writing and communication skills are an important aspect of many careers. What might be surprising, though, is how many people lack those necessary fundamental skills. In fact, Western Carolina University reports that the College Board "discovered that a third of all workers fall short of employers' expectations in written communication skills ... when it surveyed 120 corporations in the Business Roundtable" (full article available here).
